PMZ比例調壓閥在液壓系統中以其可變的控制壓力和較少的油量控制著其它液壓元件（例如：換向閥）。 位于 A 接口的、符合電動控制所調節的次級壓力不取決于初級回路中泵的現有壓力，PMZ比例調壓閥而在 A 接口的降低壓力與電流輸入信號之間存在線性關系。 PMZ比例調壓閥由于結構所決定，現有的泄漏油流量必須通過 R 接口無壓力地回流油箱。 例如當次級壓力通過外力作用時上升超過設置值時，此種調壓閥具有過載平衡功能（起到溢流閥作用）。
